OUR STORY
Growing up in Durham, Orange County, I witnessed a deep gap in food availability - specifically within communities like mine. It wasn’t until college that I learned about food deserts. I started to study how food, especially healthy food, wasn’t made accessible to certain communities based on their socio-economic status. So instead of just saying “man, that’s unfair!” I decided we were going to do something about it.
OUR MISSION
Sankofa Farms uses agriculture as civic infrastructure to build healthier, more self-sufficient, and more economically resilient communities. We produce healthy food while creating opportunities for education, youth development, entrepreneurship, and community leadership, with a particular focus on strengthening communities in rural and urban North Carolina.
OUR COMMUNITY
We developed Sankofa Farms Agricultural Academy to provide opportunities for young men to engage in agriculture-focused STEM skill development and currently partner with 5+ community organizations to take our food from the farms to the tables of people who need it most.

Bees in the T.R.A.P.
Teaching Responsible Apiary Practices.
Come to the farm and find out why we love bees and learn about responsible apiary! In this hour and a half, you will learn about the basic equipment needed to keep bees and management techniques. Kamal Bell is a certified beekeeper and has been keeping bees for over five years.
